How A Pressure Cooked Saves Me Time
One of my most favorite kitchen gadgets is my electric pressure cooker. I’m on my second one!
At first, I bought one with a gift card and it sat in my closet for over 6 months. I was totally intimidated to use it. What if it blew up? Would it burn my food? What kind of foods taste best cooked in it?
I finally got some courage to get mine out after I saw a few food bloggers I admire using theirs. My only regret is waiting so long! I’ve found that it saves me time and energy in the kitchen. When I didn’t have time in the morning to make the crock-pot meal, the pressure cooker can make the same meal in no more than 90 minutes. I also like the saute function, where you can cook the meat and put in the rest of the ingredients for the soup or stew and set it & forget it.
There are many brands of electric pressure cookers and the most famous is the Instant Pot. I actually don’t own the name brand one, but mine works just fine! They frequently go on sale at Amazon, Target, and Kohl’s.
The electric pressure cooker is just that. It plugs into the electrical socket and cooks food at high temperatures and for shorter time periods. What can take more time than you think, is for it to come up to the right pressure temperature to actually cook your food. These times can vary depending on what food you are cooking.
Personally, I like cooking rice, chili/stews, bone broth, ground meat, hard boiled eggs, and large cuts of meat for things like barbecue.
Every electric pressure cooker comes with instructions and I suggest reading yours. It probably has some great recipes, too! Some pressure cookers also have a slow cook setting and a yogurt making setting.
