What is the Best Snack Bar?

Snacks can make or break your day. Choosing the right protein bar can be so confusing! .

I was at the grocery store recently and realized that there are more and more snack/granola type bars! How to chose the right one? .

I look at the following ingredients:

  • Protein

  • Sugar

  • Soy

For protein I like to have no less that 10 grams for a good snack. Protein helps weight loss and keeps you satisfied longer. . There are a few types of protein in snack bars: pea protein, egg whites, nuts, seeds, whey, and soy. Please stay away from soy, its highly processed. The other types are better choices because they are less processed and more from whole foods.

There are so many types of added sugar and I prefer a bar with as little added sugar as possible. Zero is ideal but less that 5 grams is acceptable. Did you know that only 24 grams of added sugar is the recommendation for your entire day? . Snacks can really add a lot of added sugar to your day if higher sugar foods are chosen.

I don't like added soy in anything I eat. It is damaging to the thyroid and is one the most processed crops in our country. Lots of pesticides sprayed on it, too! .Put it back on the shelf if you see anything soy based in your snack bar.

My favorite snack bars at the moment are RX Bars and Shanti Bars. I’ve found these at my local grocery store. What is your favorite?
