Nourish Yourself
I find this is the #1 recommendation I say to all of my nutritional therapy clients. Nourish Yourself.
Undereating is really the main cause of so many health issues and diseases. How else can we fuel our bodies to be able to do things we love day in and day out? Our bodies need energy to make our hearts beat, our lungs breathe, our brains think, muscles move, and nerves fire. Chronic undereating and overeating of non-nutritious food will catch up with you in the forms of brain fog, blood sugar swings, digestive distress and lack of energy. After many years of this, then disease will follow.
There are so many reasons for not eat well. Lack of time, food, knowledge of what to eat, not feeling hungry and lack of cooking skills. Let’s break down some of these excuses:
Lack of Time
This could be true. Or could you find 1 hour a week to plan meals for the week? Another hour to shop? And possibly one hour to prep some veggies and meat for the week? I personally find if I just plan the dinners for the week, I will have leftovers for lunch. At this stage of my life (having a young family) we neat very plainly with foods like baked chicken, meatballs, roasted pork tenderloin, beef stew, ham steak, or baked salmon. I use frozen veggies and cook rice on the side or potatoes.
Lack of food.
Yes, grocery shopping can be time consuming and overwhelming. Have you used any of the online shopping programs and then just drive to the store and pick up or have it delivered? This can be a time and life saver. But I also find that if I have a good list made from my meal plan for the week, it isn’t nearly as time consuming or overwhelming.
Lack of knowledge of what to eat.
A great rule of thumb is to fill your plate half way with vegetables, have 1 protein (meat, poultry, eggs, or beans), and 1 starch (rice, potatoes, pasta, etc). For most people, this is the easiest way and healthiest way to eat. If you have more specific needs, please feel free to reach out for a free 20 minute consultation from me!
Not feeling hungry.
This could be true. Most likely, it is a sign that your digestive system isn’t working properly. If you aren’t really hungry until lunch time, your digestive tract takes longer to digest food and pass it through. That slow transit time of your food is saying that nutrients are not being absorbed well and toxins are not being eliminated properly. Drinking hot lemon water first thing in the morning can get your digestive juices going.
Lack of cooking skills
For many people, heating food in the microwave is cooking. I understand! Once I was on my own, I had to teach myself how to cook. I made many mistakes over the years! But, nowadays, thanks for YouTube and blogs, you can find out how to cook anything! My family loves this crockpot slow cooked whole chicken recipe.
By nourishing yourself, you will be able to be the best version of yourself! Imagine the possibilities!
